SciWorks recognizes the contributions of African-American scientists and inventors in this enlightening exhibit. Fountain pens, a reclining chair, the “Super Soaker” and many more contributions to everyday life are on display, along with facts on the inventors and their patents.

Spend an evening at SciWorks with Mike Lucas and find out! Mike Lucas, a Solar Ambassador with NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, will present a program on how NASA will select and fund future space exploration missions in the coming decade. Astronomy Observing

The Forsyth Astronomical Society will conduct an observing session in SciWorks’ parking lot – telescopes will be provided. There is no rain date for this. April 16 is also the night of our monthly rock laser shows in the planetarium! Come for the laser shows and stay for astronomy!

The doors will open 30min. before the first show and seating is first come, first served. No advance ticket sales and no refunds will be given.

Science Cafés
Tuesday Nights at Big Shotz Tavern

Science Cafés are informal talks given by a local expert at a local gathering place. At a café participants can… learn about the latest issues in science, chat with a scientist in plain language, meet new friends, speak your mind, and, talk with your mouth full!
The talks will take place at Big Shotz Tavern, 109 S. Stratford Road in Winston-Salem. The Science Cafés begin at 7pm and will be held in the private room at Big Shotz. Participants are encouraged to enjoy dinner on their own from 6-7pm. There is no fee to participate in the Science Café.

The Science and Engineering of Dams
How sites for new dams are investigated, how aging dams are investigated and repaired, and how these studies are conducted using boreholes and geophysical methods to investigate the subsurface, focusing on the geologic and geotechnical issues associated with dam foundations and seepage.

Tissue engineering: a phrase that is exciting, mysterious, and controversial. From better skin grafts for burn victims to entire replacement parts grown in labs right here in Winston-Salem, this science holds promise for future generations. This hands-on exhibit developed by Carnegie Science Center offers us a glimpse of how humans are put together, what happens when we get injured or diseased, how we heal, and how we might be able to improve and enhance these processes.
